Six months after a major flood wreaked havoc in Framlingham, the town’s Post Office has returned to its usual site after extensive repairs were undertaken.
The Framlingham community quickly rallied round to find temporary premises for Framlingham Post Office after the branch was forced to close due to deep flooding caused by Storm Babet, which led to the River Ore bursting its banks.
There were many kind offers of space at different premises in Framlingham, including a solicitors and a charity.
Postmaster Roger Tripp was delighted and relieved to open a temporary branch at nearby Bulstrodes department store at 27 Bridge Street, Framlingham, IP13 9AJ, in November ahead of the busy Christmas period. It closed on Saturday.
Framlingham Post Office re-opened at Riverside, Framlingham, Woodbridge, IP13 9AJ, on Monday 13 May.
Wendy Hamilton, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community. We worked with Postmaster Roger Tripp and the Framlingham community to rapidly find the best location for a temporary Post Office. This allowed us to restore vital Post Office services in Framlingham, whilst all the repairs and clean up took place at the Riverside shop.
“The community really rallied round. A big thank you to Bulstrodes department store for providing space for two Post Office counters for the past six months.
“Roger has been working hard to re-open the Post Office at its normal premises and to get replacement stock for the retail side.”
The opening hours are Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 5pm; Saturday: 8.15am – 12 noon.
