Clive Betts, MP for Sheffield South East, “cut the ribbon” today (30/8) at the official opening of Frecheville Post Office at a new location - Go Local, 7-9 Birley Moor Crescent, Sheffield, S12 3AS.
Cousins, Beeshman Thamotharampillai and Chandira Sekaram, known to customers as Vijaya, have added a Post Office to the convenience store which they have run for three years.
This relocation has restored Post Office services to the area after the temporary closure of the branch at 68 Birley Moor Road, Sheffield S12 4WF, in May, due to the resignation of Heron Foods, which had operated the branch.
Clive Betts MP said: “I am delighted to be opening the new Frecheville Post Office. I want to thank Beeshman Thamotharampillai and Vijaya Sekaram for taking on the branch and restoring vital Post Office services to the area.”
There are two Post Office serving positions alongside the retail counter of the Go Local store. Parking is available outside the shop.
Post Office opening hours are: Monday - Saturday: 8am – 8pm; Sunday: 9am – 7 pm. This provides 82 hours of Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers.
Postmaster, Beeshman Thamotharampillai, said: “Customers are pleased that we have taken on Frecheville Post Office. People and businesses can do their banking here instead of having to traipse two miles into town. They can also send parcels, do home shopping returns, tax their vehicles, pre-order foreign currencies and pay bills.
“We are seeing many new faces that we have not seen before as they are coming into use the Post Office and at the same time they can pick up groceries from our store.”
David Woodhead, Post Office Network Provision Manager, said: “We are delighted to have restored a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. This re-opening is greatly appreciated by the community. The branch’s opening hours make it convenient for customers to visit.”
