Our Mails strategy complements our new ten-year agreement with Royal Mail, with additional carriers providing wider “Pick Up and Drop Off” services.
Innovating in our mails business is integral to our Intent to 2025 so that we can meet the changing needs of our customers. Our Mails strategy complements our second ten-year agreement with Royal Mail, with additional carriers providing wider “Pick Up and Drop Off” services.
Our Partnership with Royal Mail
In December 2020, Post Office signed a new long-term agreement with Royal Mail, known as the Second Mails Distribution Agreement. The deal renews our long-standing partnership for the next decade, ensuring continuity for countless customers and small businesses. We will continue to deliver ease and access to essential services for our customers, leveraging our extensive branch network to offer a wide suite of Royal Mail products.
New mail partners
This agreement also marks a major milestone in our history. As well as strengthening our partnership with the universal provider, for the first time we are opening our extensive network to new mails and parcels providers.
In 2021, we secured two major contracts with DPD and Amazon to roll-out ‘Click and Collect’ services across our branch network. With the rapid rise of online shopping, this allows our customers to select a post office as the destination for their online orders so that they can pick up and drop off at a time and place that suits them. In fact, we had services available in nearly a third of our network within six months of announcing these new partnerships.
This is a great example of how we are modernising to become more attractive for customers and Postmasters alike – ultimately ensuring Post Office is commercially sustainable and fit for the future.
