Bridging the Gap between Postmasters and Post Office

How we’re strengthening connections and amplifying postmasters’ voices

Mark Eldridge, our Postmaster Experience Director, is passionate about building stronger relationships between postmasters and Post Office. His role acts as a two-way street:

  • Bringing postmasters’ perspectives into Post Office decision-making
  • Helping postmasters understand the inner workings of Post Office

“Postmasters have always been a core part of the business, but this is about really tuning into their individual experiences and learning from them.

“If I can continue to amplify the voices of postmasters and bring them into the heart of decision-making at Post Office, then I believe we can achieve great things together.”

What’s Mark’s background?

After 20 years in corporate retail, Mark bought a village shop in Norfolk and transformed it into a thriving business. Today, he runs:

  • Two convenience stores
  • A tearoom
  • Several post offices, including a mobile post office serving 18 communities weekly
  • A Banking hub

“Over time, we’ve transformed a small operation to a thriving business, employing over 30 staff. It was and is a steep learning curve, but it reignited my passion for business and community service."

What does a typical day look like?

No two days are the same. Mark spends time:
•    Meeting stakeholders
•    Working to develop communications with postmasters
•    Hosting opportunities for postmasters to share their experiences directly with Post Office colleagues

Feedback from these sessions has been fantastic.
“It has given postmasters a platform to share their passion and entrepreneurship directly. Their stories resonate and help Post Office colleagues understand postmasters in a more personal way. It’s all about creating stronger connections.”

How are postmasters’ voices shaping Post Office?

Mark’s approach is simple: listen, learn, and act.

  • Postmaster forums are creating space for collaboration
  • Live sessions broadcast throughout Post Office have given postmasters a platform to share their stories
  • Work is underway to include postmasters in decision-making and discussions with colleagues and leadership across the business

“There’s a real appetite for collaboration, and that’s a significant cultural shift. It’s been a joy to see it evolving. There is so much more to do, but we will take every forward step together.”
