Today, Post Office Chairman Nigel Railton announced a bold new, five-year strategy for Post Office that looks to deliver a ‘New Deal for Postmasters’.
At Post Office, we understand that change is essential to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve. In November 2024, our Chairman, Nigel Railton introduced a five-year Transformation Plan to deliver a ‘New Deal for Postmasters’ – a commitment to significantly increase postmasters’ total annual income and strengthen their role in the direction of our business.
Our intent is that by 2030, subject to government funding, the New Deal will deliver
- A £250m increase in overall annual postmaster remuneration, significantly increasing the viability of branches and ensuring they can continue to provide the vital contact points with customers that they offer our clients.
- A far greater role for postmasters in the day-to-day operations of the business, strengthening their voice throughout Post Office.
- An enhanced package of support from Post Office, from onboarding and set-up, through to systems support and commercial excellence training.

Five pillars of transformation
Our five-year transformation plan aims to deliver a digitally enabled, more sustainable business with better supported postmasters, products and services so that postmasters and our partners can continue their vital role supporting communities across the UK. Each year, we will implement an Annual Business Plan to ensure everyone and all activity at Post Office is aligned with our transformation.
We will deliver this through a series of strategic projects, organised into five pillars:
- Strengthen our commercial offer
- Ensure our network is fit-for-purpose
- Deliver a new operating model
- Transform technology & data
- Reset stakeholder relationships
Annual Business Plan
Each year, we will produce an Annual Business Plan to ensure everyone and every activity at Post Office is aligned.
This year is about building strong foundations to deliver change that benefits our postmasters, partners, customers, and shareholder. By March 2026, we will have the right building blocks in place to ensure our future success.
