Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Post Office

At Post Office, we actively encourage diversity and foster a culture of inclusion. This is important for the growth of our business since we know that diverse teams can lead to greater innovation, a better connection and increased engagement with our Postmasters and customers.

We expect everyone at Post Office to make both a personal commitment to diversity and inclusion and set a standard for others to follow. Our people reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live and work and the customers we serve. The things that make us individuals are accepted, valued and celebrated. And it’s not only our people who recognise this: we’ve been recognised externally for our commitment to diversity and inclusion too.

Our achievements and commitments

We are proud of our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) at Post Office. We are an equal opportunity and diverse employer and we understand the importance of attracting and developing diverse talent. In November 2022 our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team won ‘Diversity Team of The Year’ in the European Diversity Awards, which is one of our proudest moments. We are proud to say we have been a ‘Times Top 50 Employer for Women’ four times in the past seven years, we are also Certified Disability Confident Employer.

Striving to be better

At the Post Office we understand that we can always be better. This is why we conduct an annual company-wide ED&I survey. With feedback collated through the survey and input from our ED&I network groups, we are constantly reviewing our ED&I initiatives with focus on ensuring we have diverse talent pipelines to support progression to senior leader roles.
As we continue to drive our ED&I strategy, we regularly review diversity data and evaluate what we collect to allow us to set functional targets, measure the success of our initiatives and identify areas of opportunity – helping us drive improvements and ensure we are doing the right thing for our people now and in the future.

Women in Finance Charter

In August 2017, we signed up to the HM Treasury’s Women in Finance Charter. The charter reflects the government’s aspiration to see gender balance at all levels across financial services firms. We are proud to be working alongside the HM Treasury and over 200 other organisations to support the progression of women into senior management roles and build a more balanced, fair and representative industry.

When we first signed the charter, we had 37.5% female representation at senior management level at Post Office. We also outlined at that time that we wanted to increase this to 40% representation by the end of 2018. We were very pleased to have exceeded this target early; by September 2018 female representation at senior management level at Post Office was 41.1%. This positive trajectory continued, with female representation at senior management level improving again to 42.1% in 2019.

In 2022, our senior leader representation was 42% and we continue to work towards a senior leadership team that is gender balanced. In 2025, our female senior leader representation is at 41% and overall, for the whole organisation we have 52% female representation.“
