The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Jit Ranabhat officially “cut the ribbon” (17/3) to mark the grand opening of relocated Brewery Road Post Office at a brand-new convenience store.

The new postmaster is Nirpesh Maharjan who took an empty store at 7 Brewery Road, Plumstead, SE18 7PS, and undertook a major refurbishment for Brewery Road Post Office and a convenience store selling stationery, cards, confectionery, soft drinks and off licence. There is also a photocopier and printing service.
This is Nirpesh’s first Post Office and shop, but he is very well-known and experienced as he worked at Plumstead High Street Post Office for nearly 15 years.
Nirpesh and his wife, Rejina, have taken on their first shop, which they are running with two members of staff.
The official opening was performed by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Jit Ranabhat, who is also the ward councillor for Plumstead and Glyndon where Brewery Road Post Office is located. He has seen first-hand how Nirpesh has served his community over the years.
Cllr Ranabhat said: “I’m delighted to officially open this fantastic new-look Post Office and convenience store. Huge congratulations to Nirpesh and Rejina Maharjan for their investment into this community. Their new shop will provide a range of vital services for residents and help boost the local economy.
“I know that residents and business are delighted that with the retirement of the previous postmaster they have this modern replacement branch just across the way and with longer opening hours than before.”
Post Office opening hours are Monday - Friday: 9am – 6pm; Saturday: 9.30am – 2.30pm. This provides 50 hours of Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers, which now includes Saturday opening and later closing. The shop’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday: 8am – 8pm.
The former African groceries store was fully refitted from floor to ceiling for the new-look convenience store and Post Office, including new tiles, shelving, counters and lighting. The Post Office counter is alongside the retail counter. The shop has parking right outside, which makes it easy to pop in.
Postmaster, Nirpesh Maharjan, said: “People come into the shop and their reaction is ‘Wow!’ as it is very light, bright and modern. Word is spreading that we have moved and the longer hours and parking right outside is very handy to do their banking, send parcels or to do their home shopping returns. People can withdraw cash during the Post Office opening hours as there is no ATM in the area at the moment.”
Post Office Business Support Manager, Husna Ramjahn, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted to have relocated Brewery Road Post Office. This has not only maintain service to the community at a modern, new store, and people living busy lives also benefit from the longer opening hours.”
