Queens Drive Post Office couple retiring after 33 years

Queens Drive Postmistress Laura Brunetti and her husband, Giuliano are to retire after a third of a century running their Swindon Post Office and newsagents.

The popular couple have run their business right by the Magic Roundabout since July 1992 and now they have made the decision to retire as they have a buyer for the shop.

Postmistress, Laura Brunetti said: “Running out Post Office and shop has been our way of life for nearly 33 years and we have made lifelong friends. We have really loved the interaction with customers and we want to thank them for their long and loyal support. We have been very happy here.

The couple have worked hard serving customers six days a week and they are really looking forward to being able to have holidays together and more time to enjoy the company of their family and friends.

Previously Laura had been a credit controller at WHSmith’s head office and assembled equipment for hospitals in a sterile environment. Her husband, Giuliano, also known as Julian by customers, had worked in the motor trade.

They then decided to run their own business in Swindon where Laura has lived most of her life. Laura serves the Post Office customers and Giuliano works on the retail side.

With their Magic Roundabout location they attract a lot of passing trade. They also have lots of local, loyal, customers and Laura loves the real community feel.

Laura said: “This is a lovely community. People come in and we have a chat every time. Customers are loyal. Even when people move away many come back to use our Post Office as they know us and they know that we offer a good service. No two days have been the same, which is great, which makes time quickly pass by.

Post Office Area Manager, Rachel Chidgey, said: “Laura and Giuliano have run a first-class Post Office and shop at the heart of their community. They are very well-known and respected as they provide great service and really care about their community. I want to sincerely thank them for almost 33 years of dedicated service to the people of Swindon. I wish them both a well-earned retirement. They will be sorely missed.
