“As the Inquiry’s oral evidence hearings come to an end, I want to re-iterate profound apologies to victims of the appalling Horizon IT scandal. The Inquiry’s examinations of the past have laid bare severe failings that caused terrible harm to the lives of postmasters.
I know that apologies must be underpinned by action if we are to earn back trust. Post Office will continue to do everything we can, alongside Government, to pay redress to victims. We must also face up to past failings and implement changes across the entire organisation so that we can build a Post Office fit for the future, fundamentally changed and with postmasters at its heart. These changes are already well underway and I am looking forward to this new phase in Post Office’s 360-year history.”
