MP “cuts the ribbon” at official opening of Plasmarl post office & store

Torsten Bell, MP for Swansea West, “cut the ribbon” (3/10) at the official opening of Plasmarl Post Office at 1213 Neath Road, Plasmarl, Swansea, SA6 8JT.

This new-look convenience store has restored Post Office services to Plasmarl with new Postmaster Gurwinder Sandhu at the same location as before.

The shop re-opened under his new management to restore service to the community. Gurwinder did a big refurbishment on the retail side, which has greatly improved the shop.

There is new shelving, ceiling, lighting, flooring, fridges and freezers. It has become a Premier convenience store and the shop is now well stocked. The same Post Office services are available.

Torsten Bell, MP said: “I am delighted to be officially opening Plasmarl Post Office and new-look convenience store. I want to thank Gurwinder for restoring vital Post Office services to the village and for investing in a great-looking, well-stocked, modern and welcoming store at the heart of the community."

Gurwinder has several convenience stores in Wales, but this is his first Post Office and he and his staff have undergone the training to serve Post Office customers.

Plasmarl Post Office opening hours are Monday to Friday: 7am – 7pm; Saturday: 7am – 6pm. This provides 71 hours of Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers.

Postmaster, Gurwinder Sandhu, said: “The community is really impressed with the new-look shop. I have really improved it from floor to ceiling. It’s modern, light and airy, with much better layout, there’s a much better retail range as the shelves, fridges and freezers are full. I’m really pleased to have my first Post Office. There’s a welcoming atmosphere too.

“There’s parking outside so it makes it easy for people to do their personal and business banking on behalf of all the major high street banks, rather than traipsing to the nearest bank. People can also get free cash withdrawals at the Post Office counter or pay bills.

“It’s also very handy for people with parcels to send or return or with packages to collect. They can also get groceries at the same time, with much better choice than before.

Fiona Shanahan, Post Office Network Provision Area Change Manager, said: “We are delighted to have restored Post Office services to Plasmarl as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. I know that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and hope that our customers will continue to use this service.”
